Software V&V
Software Verification & Validation (V&V) is an equipment qualification requirement fairly unique to digital equipment. NLI performs Software V&V in cases where the software resident to the equipment was not developed under a safety-related quality assurance program.
The Software V&V process requires the safety function to be defined, a failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), identification of abnormal conditions or events (ACEs), a source inspection or audit of the vendor if possible, followed by extensive validation testing at NLI. Validation testing performed by the vendor does not meet the nuclear guidelines.
