LOCA Testing
A Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) is perhaps the worst event that can happen to a nuclear plant. The equipment necessary to safety shut down the plant, or perhaps isolate the rupture, must perform their intended function in an environment of high temperature steam. LOCA qualification testing is performed inside a small pressure vessel, typically referred to as a LOCA chamber.
NLI’s LOCA chamber is fed by a boiler located just outside the building. LOCA chambers have numerous penetrations for monitoring temperature and pressure as well for operating and monitoring the component being tested.
