NLI’s supply of pumps and pump parts exemplifies two of our primary product supply methods.  NLI has supplied numerous pumps safety-related that were otherwise only available commercial grade.  It is often the case that commercially available pumps are not identical to the original equipment and differences need to be evaluated and sometimes equipment must also be qualified.

Centrifugal pumps are a fairly unique product group in that the technology hasn’t changed all that much and improvements in design have been incremental.  They are also unique in that they have very large components such as the casing that can last many decades and other components such as impellers and wear rings that require periodic replacement.  When replacement parts are no longer available, a site may be faced with having to change an entire pump at an enormous cost.  This is where NLI and our partner Standard Alloys can help.

Standard Alloys is a manufacturer of pumps and pump parts with extensive experience in the oil & gas and other commercial industries.  Working together, we can supply safety-related and even ASME III pumps parts, up to and including entire pumps.  Standard Alloys has more than 100,000 drawings and 40,000 physical molds for pump parts, or can reverse engineer parts from samples, even if they are damaged or worn.  Standard Alloys is also a foundry, so they can match any existing chemical content, or modify the chemistry to achieve better corrosion resistance or wear properties.

While centrifugal pump technology has not changed that much, manufacturing technology has.  Impellers can now be manufactured with near-perfect hydraulic balance and with far superior internal surface quality.

 Impellers and other components can also be redesigned if needed by the plant to increase capacity in conjunction with a power uprate, or to increase efficiency by reducing power consumption, or increasing life by minimizing cavitation.
