HVAC

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) is vital to the safe operation of nuclear plants, keeping manned spaces habitable and maintaining proper temperature and humidity levels for essential equipment.  Many HVAC systems and equipment are safety-related and some even need to meet ASME III requirements.

HVAC is another example of an area where NLI has taken a leadership role in the nuclear industry.  NLI covers nearly all areas of HVAC, including chillers, fans, heat exchangers, dampers and actuators, compressors, condensers, and of course, controls.

NLI has taken the leadership role through great relationships with our vendor partners  such as Trane and others.  Trane is literally a household name in HVAC equipment and is one of the largest manufacturers of chillers and HVAC equipment worldwide.  NLI has also partnered with Howden Buffalo for the supply of their Buffalo Forge line of axial and centrifugal fans.

One of our particular areas of expertise is digital upgrades of the control systems.  NLI has qualified the Trane CH 531 and Adaptiview digital control units.  Digital chiller controls are not only a great solution for obsolete analog controls, but they can make older chillers fun much more efficiently and add years to their life.

NLI is well equipped for all aspects of HVAC equipment qualification, dedication, and supply.  NLI has two large chiller units installed and operating, which are used as the heat sink for testing new units, including those being qualified on our 12 x 12 foot seismic table.  The chillers also permit us to load test compressors rebuilt by NLI under our safety-related maintenance program.
