Batteries and Chargers
NLI’s very first hardware product was flooded cell stationary batteries. We worked with GNB batteries back then and they remain a valued partner today. With over 100 battery strings installed worldwide, NLI is the premier supplier of Class 1E batteries and high seismic racks. Since 1991, NLI has been controlling the manufacture of the NCN Series flooded cell stationary battery as a true Class 1E product, being designed, manufactured and supplied specifically for the nuclear industry.
The NCN Series is a true "basic component" and is not a dedicated commercial product. This ensures a long life, consistent battery from shipment through its 20-year design life. These batteries are manufactured at the facility in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the controls of the NLI Quality Assurance program, with NLI personnel on-site for the entire manufacturing process.
All batteries are qualified in accordance with IEEE 323-1974/1983, 344-1975/1987, and 535; sizing per IEEE 485, and capacity testing per IEEE 450 and the client's specification.
NLI battery racks are designed and manufactured at our Fort Worth, Texas facility, based on each client's battery room configuration, battery size and seismic requirements; all racks are supplied in accordance with IEEE Std. 344. Many of the components that the battery racks are built from are supplied by another of NLI’s partners – Cooper B-Line.
To keep batteries charged, NLI is the authorized nuclear supplier for both Power Conversion Products (PCP) and C&D Technologies battery chargers, as well as spare parts and components. NLI's responsibilities include:
-
Configuration control including traceability to the original purchase specifications and qualification test reports
-
Design control, including equivalency evaluations for any replaced parts
-
Dedication of parts for the application in the charger/inverter
-
Equipment qualification
All PCB's are burned-in and tested using exclusive test stands simulating the safety function of the board in the host piece of equipment. Qualification is achieved by showing traceability to existing qualification reports on file with the client in accordance with IEEE Standards 344-1975 and 323-1974.
